The animal science department’s Student Academic Fee Committee is in charge of making decisions on how to spend money the department receives from the College Based Fee initiative. The committee has 5 student members to represent the sophomore, junior and senior classes and two faculty members assigned by the department head.
In 2003-04, the Student Fee Committee elected to roll-over the remaining funds of $84,000 for lecturers and biotech facility salaries/wages for 2004-05 to avoid layoffs and enable the department to maintain its existing course offerings.
The department received $30,000 from the College of Agriculture and provided $10,000 from ASCI student fee funding for lighting at the Equine Center. These safety lights are to enhance security for students who feed, care, manage, and foal mares during evening, night, and early morning chores.
